Due to this, multiple purchases are required if you wish to install it on more than one iOS device on your account. The free version only gives you a taste of the gameplay reserving the campaign and multiplayer for a $6.99 in-app purchase. Gameloft did something a little differently with the pricing of Starfront. A rich storyline, intricate 3D visuals, an awesome interface, and tons of replay make Starfront an RTS achievement. With no official Starcraft for iOS, Starfront is the next best thing. Whatever game mode you select, the action is intense and smooth even with dozens of units at play. There are five different multiplayer maps for up to four-player battles online through Gameloft’s service or local via wifi or bluetooth. In skirmish mode, you can create your own single-player battles, and the different multiplayer options give you unlimited replay. Gameplay extends well beyond the extensive campaign. Unfortunately, Starfront is not native to the iPad-a major oversight by Gameloft in my opinion. Touch screens are made for RTS games, and once you’ve learned to use more than one finger, you’ll be tapping your units around the maps with the greatest of ease. You can hide and reveal menus as you need them freeing much of the screen for the impressive visuals. Starfront does an excellent job by giving you instant access to necessary controls and status information. RTS games often succeed or fail based upon their interfaces, and the small screen on an iPhone or iPod touch makes this an extra challenge. You’ll mine minerals to construct buildings and train armies with whom you’ll accomplish your objectives-usually defeating the enemy races. The gameplay, despite being on a mobile platform, is also typical of RTS games. Each of the twenty missions follows a narrated story complete with cut-scenes and details worthy of console or PC games. You’ll start as the humans before unlocking the Myriad and the Wardens missions. With only three more days until the official release, we won't have to wait long to find out if Starfront: Collision lives up to all the hype.If you’re curious why these three races can’t just get along, tackle the single-player campaign. It is sad that the game only supports 3rd and 4th generation devices, but I'm sure it was hard enough for the development team to squeeze out an acceptable level of performance during heavy combat on current devices. Hopefully, Gameloft has nailed the interface because a lot of fans have been waiting for a definitive iOS real time strategy game. The trailer also showcases a short segment of actual hands-on gameplay, and from what I can tell, the interface looks fairly intuitive. The trailer shows off some very nice graphics, and the framerate seems smooth even during intense action scenes. The game will have multiplayer in the form of "massive" 4-player local and online battles. To add to the chaos there is another race known as the Wardens (aka psychotic robots) who are bent on destroying everyone. The Consortium (aka humans) are mining Sinistral for precious Xenodium crystals, but the native Myriads (aka aliens) aren't keen on giving them up. This Starcraft "inspired" app features three factions struggling to obtain a rare resource on the planet Sinistral. To add to the chaos, a sentient robot race called the Wardens is trying to turn the war in their favor. The Myriad, an indigenous race of aliens, is addicted to Xenodium and will do everything they can to prevent the Consortium from plundering their resources. However, they are not the only ones after the rare mineral. Welcome to planet Sinistral, where rare Xenodium crystals are coveted by a human mining conglomerate called the Consortium. Thankfully that isn't the case, and all of the die hard strategy fans can now sleep better at night knowing this title will soon be theirs to command. I was beginning to worry that we might not see the title for months. This is great news because Gameloft has been pretty hush-hush with the title since its initial announcement. They also announced that the title will be available for purchase via the App Store on February 10th. Gameloft has finally released a gameplay trailer for their highly anticipated real time strategy title, Starfront: Collision.
